ALERT!

CALLS needed by Noon EST on Thursday March 16th, 2006!

US SENATE: VOTE YES ON SPECTER-HARKIN

RESTORE ALZHEIMER FUNDING

Every Alzheimer program supported by the federal government has been slated to be eliminated or cut by the President’s budget proposal. Alzheimer research and programs are in crisis. Alzheimer advocates are facing our toughest challenge ever.

Tell your Senators to help restore this critical funding!

Congress has the power to reverse these cuts. At this time, the US Senate is creating its own budget proposal, which includes $3 billion over the President’s budget – still not adequate to restore the funding to Alzheimer research and programs, and other Health and Education programs.

There is hope. A new Senate floor amendment, proposed by Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) and Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA), would provide an additional $7 billion -- for a total of $10 billion over the President's budget.

The Specter-Harkin amendment is critical to restoring the federal funding for Alzheimer research, care and prevention. We need 51 votes to pass this amendment. Without these additional dollars, it is unlikely that funding will be fully restored.

Senators Bill Nelson and Senator Mel Martinez must vote YES on the Specter-Harkin amendment.

TAKE ACTION! Call Senator Nelson and Senator Martinez in their Washington DC offices today.

Washington Offices: Senator Nelson (202) 224-5274

Senator Martinez (202) 224-3041

If you are not a FL resident, find your US Senators .

Tell them to:

-Vote YES on the Specter-Harkin amendment to the budget
-Restore the Alzheimer research and programs cut by the President's budget
-Tell them briefly why Alzheimer research and programs are important to you
-Remember to mention your name, home address and zip code
The vote on the Senate budget resolution is expected to be completed by the end of the week (March 17, 2006).
